Who do you believe, me or your lyin’ eyes?
As a vocal and active card carrying progressive and a reluctant liberal Democrat, I receive almost daily political emails from my less progressive relatives and friends. Most of these emails are jokes poking fun at Democrats that I actually find clever and funny. Some point out actual stupidities and weaknesses of the target. I say, right on!
However, other emails are overtly serious in nature as they slander political office holders or candidates with outright lies. They are like swift-boating in that they take a truth about a target, but then weave outright lies around it. The purpose of these posts is to slander, discredit, and ruin the integrity of mostly upright people who are running or working against Republicans and who are lacking the ability to win a vote or an election fairly. The latest assault is titled “Obama Not A US Citizen.”
The thing is that these are such overtly contrived lies that you would think anyone with half a brain could see through it. Not so. Never underestimate the laziness and ignorance of the American voter who time and time again will fearfully vote against his or her best interests. It was fear that got us into Iraq. It was fear that got us a first and second term of the “Shrub.” Never underestimate the corporate media’s willingness to use these emails as a source for their so-called news.
I have taken it upon myself to “reply” with a rebuttal to every sender and all their “carbon copied” recipients. They could save themselves discomforting embarrassment by going to Factcheck.org and/or Snopes.com and checking out the truth. They will quickly realize how distorted these emails and most of our news has been.
