We had another murder in Alamogordo yesterday. The Alamogordo Daily News covered the story with a photograph of the victim and another of a blood spattered suspect. The reaction of some people in Otero County was displeasure directed against ADN for printing the photos. The following is my reply:

Yes, it is unpleasant to view death and so much more pleasant to sweep reality under the carpet. The US media is all too happy to pander to our tender sensibilities by not publishing news that is “too real” and that could possibly spoil our appetite for shopping. (more…)

Mistaken Realities

Much confusion amongst our right-winged cousins. Not only have they wandered off the path of reason, they mistake our flag for the country itself, the Pledge of Allegiance for patriotism, and shit for brains. The latter is, clinically speaking, not really an analogy, but something they demonstrate over and over again.

A symbol does represent something and we should focus our attention on that something and not on the symbol. When you go into a restaurant you first look at the menu to choose the meal that appeals to you. The menu contains the symbols of what you came for. You do not then eat the menu, but rather the food you selected, hopefully. (more…)

Why Immigrants Immigrate

I think its time to take a closer look at why Mexicans are coming here. I doubt they come because they like it here, but rather because they couldn’t otherwise support their families in Mexico. The reason for that being that NAFTA, IMF, and international agra-business has eliminated traditional farming practices and industries that hire poor people.

For example: Mexico imports corn and tortillas from the US eliminating hundreds of thousands of jobs. The immigrants previously could earn maybe $5 a day when they can earn say $5 an hour here. What would you do in their position? How far would you go to feed yourself and your family?

I don’t think it’s healthy to have this many undocumented people here either, but I do think the change has to be applied at the source of the problem rather than depriving anyone from making a living. This problem was created by Corporate America with the greedy support of both parties. This situation needs to be fixed pretty soon now. And That’s Why Immigrants Immigrate!

Happy Easter,
